Synthetic example

Adding a loved one should feel like one photograph

This example uses synthetic or licensed source material. It shows the quality bar for a believable family photograph, not a guaranteed outcome from every pair of inputs.

  • Recognizable facial identity without beautifying or de-aging
  • Consistent light, perspective, scale, skin tone, and camera grain
  • Natural posture and clothing with hands checked before download

How it works

How to add a deceased loved one to a photo

01

Choose two photos

Upload the family photo you want to keep as the base, then a separate portrait of your loved one. Choose JPG, PNG or WebP files under 10 MB each. Before you add a deceased loved one to a photo, check that both faces are sharp and that you have permission to use both images.

02

Review a private preview

Choose side by side, an embrace, or a portrait arrangement if you wish. Confirm permission and request your watermarked preview. Inspect facial features, body scale and lighting before deciding whether to continue. A memorial photo should feel recognizable to you; there is no need to accept an image that does not.

03

Keep it when it feels right

Sign in with Google within seven days to save the preview to your private history. Signing in does not generate another photo or spend credits. Purchase credits only if you want a watermark-free HD generation or an AI refinement. Review the new result before downloading; it can differ from the original preview.

Better input, better result

Choose photos that keep your loved one recognizable

Use uncropped, sharp faces with eyes and facial contours clearly visible.

Choose photos with similar, soft lighting and avoid extreme filters.

Similar camera angles and age-appropriate references reduce pasted-on results.

AI can alter identity, hands, jewelry, or clothing. Always review before sharing or printing.

Add deceased loved one to photo: choosing the right moment

A meaningful memorial photograph starts with a moment you want to remember, not an elaborate effect. Our add deceased loved one to photo tool works with two images, without manual cutouts or editing layers. The aim is a respectful imagined keepsake, not evidence that the person was present. Choose the base image first, then a portrait that belongs naturally in its light and perspective.

A place in the family photograph

To add a deceased loved one to a family photo, look for open space beside the people already in the frame. A simple background and a relaxed pose give the edit fewer competing details. Check that the added person's head and shoulders are proportional to everyone else. If the group fills the frame edge to edge, another base photo may work better than forcing someone into a narrow gap.

A wedding, anniversary or graduation keepsake

Some families want a keepsake from a milestone their loved one could not attend. Use a reference that matches the way you want to remember them, without assuming AI will reproduce formal clothing precisely. An imagined wedding portrait can be deeply personal. Ask the people pictured before sharing, and describe it as an AI memorial edit so it is not mistaken for an original photograph.

A portrait with enough detail to recognize

Choose a reference with visible eyes, a clear jawline and an unobstructed face. Avoid sunglasses, strong beauty filters and screenshots compressed several times. If you only have a printed photograph, make an evenly lit scan or photograph it without reflections. Before uploading, compare the reference at full size: the model cannot reliably recover an identity from facial detail that is not there.

Natural placement before elaborate effects

Side-by-side placement is a useful starting point when both source photos show similar poses. An embrace asks AI to invent more interaction, especially arms, hands and overlapping clothing. Portrait arrangements also depend on compatible head angles. For a convincing edit, prioritize a believable position and shared lighting before requesting a more complex scene. None of the composition choices guarantees a particular result.

Review the face, then the whole photograph

Look at the features you know best: expression, smile, eye shape and familiar age. Then check shadows, skin tones, head size, fingers, jewelry and clothing seams. With AI editing, an attractive image can still feel unlike that person. Keep your original files and compare them with the result. If something feels wrong, you do not need to download or share it.

Keep control of a sensitive memory

Decide who the keepsake is for before making it public. Family members can respond differently to an AI memorial photo, and a private conversation may be more appropriate than a surprise post. Get permission for the source images and consider the wishes of people shown. The tool does not post to social networks automatically. If you share the finished image yourself, explain that it is an edited tribute rather than a historical record.

Adding a deceased loved one to a photo: your questions

Can I add a deceased loved one to a photo for free?

You can try one low-resolution, watermarked preview without an account. Free means a preview, not a free HD download. The allowance is once per visitor or account, not a daily refill; signing in does not unlock a second allowance. Save the preview by signing in within seven days. HD generation and refinement require purchased credits.

Who can access the photos I upload?

Your images are not placed in a public gallery or posted to social networks. We use a third-party AI service to process the photos and editing instructions needed for your request. Private storage does not mean processing happens only on your device, or guarantee that third parties never use data for training. Please read the privacy policy before uploading.

Will AI preserve my loved one's face exactly?

No exact likeness is guaranteed. The goal is a believable family photograph with consistent identity, lighting, perspective, skin tone and grain, not a sticker-like collage. AI can change expressions or recognizable features. Compare the result with the original portrait before keeping it, and do not treat an attractive result as proof of an accurate likeness.

Is this affiliated with a funeral home or social network?

No. PhotoMemorial AI is an independent photo tool and does not provide grief counseling, identity verification, or automatic social publishing.

Can I add a deceased loved one to a wedding or group photo?

You can use a wedding or group photograph as the base and one portrait as the reference. Leave space for the added person and choose similar camera angles. Crowded groups and tiny faces make a convincing edit harder. This two-image workflow does not guarantee that every person, outfit or background detail will stay unchanged.

Can I use an old, scanned or blurry portrait?

A clear scan of an old print can be useful. Crop away the scanner border, not the person's face, and avoid glare when photographing a print. Severe blur or missing facial detail gives the model less evidence and may produce an unfamiliar face. The tool is not a guaranteed restoration service; use a clearer reference when possible.

Is HD the same preview with the watermark removed?

No. HD is a new generation using your source photos and costs one credit. Faces, poses and other details may differ from the preview. Review the HD result itself before printing or sharing it. Downloading an already-generated paid result again does not cost another credit; requesting another generation or refinement does.

How do I refine a memorial photo?

After a paid result exists, use the refinement controls to describe one specific change, such as softer lighting or a more natural placement. Each refinement costs one credit. AI may also change details you did not mention, so compare the full image afterward. Refinement is not a promise of exact, pixel-level editing or perfect identity preservation.

What happens if generation fails?

If a paid generation fails, its credit is returned automatically. If the result is delayed, check the task status before submitting another request. A completed image that you dislike is different from a failed generation, so review the preview carefully and read the refund policy before buying credits. You will not be charged again to download an existing paid result.

Can I delete my uploads and memorial photos?

Yes. Use the delete control in your private photo history for saved tasks. Unclaimed anonymous files expire after seven days; signing in and claiming them changes that retention to account storage until deletion. Account closure removes photo assets, while payment records may be retained for legal and financial obligations. See the privacy policy for the provider data flow.
